Airline passenger growth slipped to single digits in the peak month of December for the first time in three years, a sign that slowing economic growth is affecting air travel, airline executives said.
Airline passenger traffic grew eight per cent to 5.63 million people in December from a year earlier, according to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
Double-digit growth “is possible if your economy is growing at 9-10 per cent”, said a senior official with a private airline. Economic growth may slow to severn per cent in year to March 31, according to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
